People get hung up on names, don’t they? What’s the difference between hypnosis and meditation? Nothing. You end up in the same state. It’s said that in meditation, you relax the mind first and the body follows; in hypnosis you relax the body and the mind follows. Either way, you are in a state of trance.
Does this mean that a person who is meditating is in a highly-suggestible state? Yes, theoretically. But a meditating person usually has not handed operational control over to another person, and would be the case in hetero-hypnosis. They’ve nonetheless made their unconscious highly receptive to what their conscious mind suggests. Meditation is in fact self-hypnosis.
There are many applications for self-hypnosis. One of my favorites and most useful is to program yourself to solve a problem while you sleep. You put yourself into a trance just before going to sleep, and give your unconscious mind the direct suggestion that it will work on the problem while you sleep restfully, and when you awaken, you will feel fully refreshed and know the answer.
I may post a script for this later.
